Hello Sting
Soccer Families
Jeff Lathan, President
Well we have made
a few changes this soccer season. After a few extra years as the
President of our soccer club, John as transitioned out of that role. A
big thank you to John for his time spent as President. I have now
taken on the role as President and my hope is to continue the progress of
our club that develops our young soccer players.
We are now on
Facebook. Check it out and "Like" us to keep up to date with the Sting
happenings.
Some changes will
be coming to Robins Brook this Spring. The Sting Soccer Club along
with the Town of Bergen have placed an order to purchase two new goals for
our newest field, the upper back field. There was a desperate need to
replace the old and possibly dangerous existing goals. This purchase
will greatly improve the use of this field. It is a large investment
on our part. Our organization supports itself solely on the
registrations we collect along with a sponsor for each team. We are in
a process of writing and applying for a grant that we hope we receive and
will defiantly assist us in offsetting the cost. In addition we are
currently organizing a Chiavetta's Chicken BBQ. Amy Drake has offered
to lend her fundraising experience and plan this event. It will be
unique in that we are offering a Drive Thru service. No need to get
out of your vehicle, we will be providing car side service. The event
is planned for February 21, 2012 at the Gillam Grant parking lot. We
have set a very ambitious goal of over 400 chickens. To achieve this
goal we will need every player to commit to selling 5 tickets. All the
proceeds will go directly to pay for these goals (Sting share is $1800 of
the total $5000). Information will be sent to our families soon and
tickets ($8.50) will go on sale January 2, 2012. Check the website for
additional information. We will need volunteers as well, please
contact Amy Drake to sign up.
Our registration
process is complete we are very close to having 8 teams this year, we have a
few slots to fill yet for our U17 Girls team.
I would like to
welcome a few new faces to our list of awesome volunteers. Wayne
Donnelly will be coaching our U10 Boys. Tammy Fuller along with her
manager Tammy Menzie will be leading our U10 Girls. Scott and Laurie
Morgante have returned to Sting to take on the U16 Girls as Coach and
Manager. Even though John has gotten a little relief by not leading
the helm he will now be coaching both the U15 Boys and U17 Boys. Don't
worry he will have help, Carol Coffta will be adding another year to her
career with Sting as the U15 Boys Manager and Gina Lathan will take on
the U17 Boys as their Manager. Rob Swapceinski has stepped off the
sidelines and will be coaching our U12 Boys. Finally Ken Kruppner is
working hard to register the last few girls to round out the U17 Girls
roster.
We do have an
open position on our Board. The VP slot is available. If you are
interested contact myself or any of our Board Members.
By this time many
of our players have begun practicing and some have been participated in
their first indoor tournament. Cheer on your teams and have fun
watching them score some goals.
To a great soccer
season....
Jeff
